BIO-TECHNOPRENEUR PROGRAMME

The Institute initiated a 10-month tailor-made multidisciplinary week-end programme, titled, 'Biotechnopreneur Programme' for professionals interested in having a career in life sciences. The objective is to promote entrepreneurship among life science graduates, medicos, scientists and those in related fields. This would raise the incidence of new enterprise creation in the areas of biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and other technology and innovation driven sectors. The programme emphasizes on practical and field related aspects such as; technology evaluation, business plan preparation, networking with institutions for financial resources and implementation. Besides training, the programme imparts guidance in selection of technologies and commercialization of the technology.

With the completion of classroom inputs, the participants have now been attached to mentors keeping in mind the expertise domain of the mentor and the area selected by the participant for business venture. The mentoring sessions are presently under way.

A 1-day workshop on 'The Journey of a Biotechnopreneur' was also recently organized wherein 5 successful Biotechnopreneurs shared their experiences with the participants focusing mainly on failures, threats and challenges encountered by them, and the strategies they employed to overcome these. Besides, special inputs were provided to participants on 'regulatory requirements' and 'procedural aspects' for starting a business venture in the area of bio-technology.
